Why You Cannot Miss This Year's American DanceSport Festival

The 2017 American DanceSport Festival is right around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited for things to finally kick off on Oct. 14-15 in Miami, FL.

As the only WDSF World Championship competition hosted in the U.S., the ADF is offering a front-row seat to watch some of the top dancing the world has to offer.

This competition gives U.S. amateur competitors the opportunity to compete against high-level international dancers without having to fly overseas, which according to event organizer Ronen Zinshtein "does much to strengthen the U.S. dancesport community and presence."

Zinshtein, a former national champion dancer himself, is committed to growing the U.S. DanceSport community and is motivated to "give back to the amateurs, whether it be the young ones or to our very own top amateurs."

Those familiar with World DanceSport Federation-sanctioned competitions know that they operate with a strong emphasis on the sport aspect of dance. From the beginning, the WDSF organization has been determined to get DanceSport into the Olympic Games. This year, they have been successful in having Breaking (break dancing) included as an official Olympic sport at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

This style of competition is most popular in Europe and rarely conducted on U.S. soil, making the American DanceSport Festival that much more appealing because "it exposes Americans to another aspect of dancing," according to Zinshtein.

True dancesport fans as well as "Dancing with the Stars" fans will be excited to know that former DWTS pro Karina Smirnoff and partner Slavik Kryklyvyy will be the headline performers during this year's "Show Dance" on Sunday evening. If you’ve never seen these two dance together, you are in for a treat. These former champions and world-renowned stars of the dancesport world are thrilling to watch, as they intoxicate all the senses with their performances.

If you’re going to be attending the event in person, we implore you to not miss out on the Celebration Dinner taking place Friday night to kick off the event. It’s an all-white Cuban party with delicious cocktails, a live band, dinner, and of course fireworks. The immensely influential Tommy Shaughnessy will be honored for his unquantifiable contributions to the world of dance over the decades, and this is the perfect opportunity to mix and mingle with dancers and judges you’ve maybe never met before.

This year's competition is going to one for the books, and you won’t want to miss it. We’re streaming the whole event live right here on FloDance.com so you can witness all the excitement in real time.
