- Here's Every Undefeated Team Left In D2 Football; When They Could Lose Next
Absolute chaos ensued in Week 6 of the college season and to be quite frank, there were very few survivors who will not see any change in this week’s D2 FloCollege rankings.
With just nine undefeated teams left in D2 football, the stakes have never been higher for those teams trying to hold on to a perfect season thus far. The usual suspects find themselves still in the rankings. Benedict was unable to find a home in this week’s Top 25 but is still receiving votes.
Coming up on the halfway point of the 2025 season, the start of the playoff race will be in full swing heading into Week 7. So without further ado, let’s see how much the chaos shook up the Top-25 this week and learn a few things about some of your favorite teams.
Ferris Holds On…But Is The Crown Loose?
It’s crazy to think that since the first FloCollege pool way back in the preseason, one team has held on to the top spot.
Ferris State remains as one of the nine undefeated teams left in D2 football and for the Bulldogs, it seems like their dominance only continues to grow week by week. The reigning national champions have proven that they are a good football program, but when you are already on top of the mountain, is it possible to keep getting better?
“Ferris State was elite last year, I didn't think it was possible but they are even better in 2025. Wyatt Bower has more touchdowns (20) through six weeks than Trinidad Chambliss had in 2024 (16)." - Leanza Pieroni
Now, for Ferris State and for a good portion of D2 football fans, the writing is on the wall; no one is coming close to the Bulldogs. However, there is one team that is within the perfect striking distance to potentially dethrone Ferris State in the coming weeks. That team is Harding University.
The Bison are no strangers to the FloCollege rankings, but have been in the shadows as they work to close what would normally be a much larger gap between the one and the two spots. Harding is currently the second of nine teams that remain undefeated in the 2025 season. The Bison are currently 6-0 on the season and will face Henderson State on Oct.18.
Kutztown & West Florida - Calm, Cool and Climbing Soon
For this week, just like the weeks past, the three and four spots stay the same or play a nice game of flip-flop. In the rankings this week, things look pretty normal if you have been an avid reader of the D2 rankings.
Kutztown still holds up in the three spot in this week’s rankings. The Golden Bears are the third of the nine remaining undefeated teams. Currently 6-0 at the halfway point of the NCAA season, Kutztown is rolling through the schedule. The Golden Bears will return home after a 34-7 win over Lock Haven to host Millersville on Oct. 18.
In the four spot is the team that will no doubt have one of the most-watched and most important games of the D2 football season. West Florida continues to be in the top four teams in these FloCollege rankings, but also one of the top teams in the country. The fourth team of the undefeated nine so far, the Argonauts, are in for their biggest challenge yet as they take on West Alabama on Oct. 18.
“I think West Florida vs West Alabama could be the best game in D2 Football this season, and that's saying something with the Anchor-Bone Classic coming up next week.” - Leanza Pieroni
Upstarts, Fallouts, And A Whole Lot Of Movement In Top 10
The five through ten spots see all not as much action as they normally do, but there is definitely still some movement this week.
Spot five does, in fact, stay the same for yet another week. Say it with me now: “Spot five belongs to Western Colorado.” Another 6-0 team, the Mountaineers are on a roll this season. As Western Colorado continues to compete in RMAC play, the Mountaineers will be on the road to take on South Dakota Mines on Oct. 18.
Spot six belongs to Minnesota State, which moves up two spots after being previously ranked eighth. The 6-1 Mavericks are on the road to Wayne State in Week 7 after a huge 47-21 win over Winona State.
The seventh spot features the biggest movement in the Top 10 this week. Central Washington takes off in the rankings, jumping all the way from 13th to seventh. The Wildcats comfortably sit in the Top-10 after a massive win over previously-ranked No. 6 UT Permian Basin in Week 6.
Spot eight sees just one small shift from the previous week. Grand Valley State climbs up just one spot from nine to eight in this week’s rankings. The 4-1 Lakers are heading into Week 7 after a 35-7 win over Northern Michigan on Oct. 11.
Spot nine sees the other half of the must-watch D2 game this week in West Alabama. The 5-0 Tigers are another member of the undefeated club, but will definitely have to shake the rust off quickly to keep the matchup with West Florida close. West Alabama will take the field for the first time since Sept. 27.
Rounding out the top ten, CSU Pueblo checks in at ten after being down two spots at 12th just a week prior. The 6-1 Thunderwolves are back on the road to take on Black Hills State on Oct. 18.
Crowded, Competitive, and Cutthroat Top 20
The remainder of the middle of the pack sees probably the most action in this week’s rankings. From triumphant climbs to dramatic downfalls, this week solidified that spots 11-20 are the most cutthroat teams so far.
Spot 11 belongs to Augustana (SD), which is on a mission to keep climbing in these rankings. The 7-0 Vikings are another member in the elite undefeated club and plan to keep things that way. Cruising right through NSIC play, Augustana will have a bye-week in Week 7 after crushing Concordia-St. Paul on Oct. 11.
Spots 12 and 13 also hold two teams who are trying to keep climbing in the ranks in the middle part of the season. Pittsburg State moved up three spots from 15 to 12th this week. Indianapolis also took a huge climb, moving from 20 to 13.
Spot 14 didn’t see too much movement in the rankings this week as Virginia Union moved into the Top-15 after being previously ranked 16th.
In possibly the biggest shock of the week, the UT Permian Basin Falcons plummeted from sixth to 15th after an LSC loss against Central Washington. With there really being no action until the fourth quarter and an all-out punt-fest before that, the vast plummet leaves fans questioning if UTPB will be able to bounce back and save what has been, for the most part, a successful season.
“UT Permian Basin is still very much a championship contender, this loss could be just what they need to refocus, lock in, and make a run in the NCAA playoffs.” - Leanza Pieroni
Spot 16 sees a new face, just one spot up from previously being ranked 17th. Michigan Tech moves into just outside the Top-15 after narrowly escaping Davenport, 16-14, on Oct. 11.
Spot 17’s occupant truly is on brand with the conference they are a part of. After seeing Slippery Rock near the bottom of the rankings in Week 6, the Rock has clawed its way back into the Top-20 at 17. The Rock’s climb back up fits the trend of just how chaotic the PSAC is as a whole conference this season. With it almost being that time of year to be seriously considering playoff implications, the PSAC needs to find some consistent winners and fast.
“Complete chaos in the PSAC, it's a roll of the dice each Saturday on who will come out on top." - Leanza Pieroni
Spot 18 should come as no surprise to anyone because it didn’t change. Delta State holds up in the 18th spot after having a bye week on Oct. 11.
Spot 19 should be a potential red flag, a warning siren for its occupant as Minnesota Duluth plummets from seven all the way to 19. Still 6-1 on the season, the Bulldogs took a Week 6 loss to Northern State University on Oct. 11. In the three-point loss, the Bulldogs have to get back on track in their next contest on Oct. 25.
Rounding out the Top-20 in this week’s D2 rankings, Emory & Henry fell one spot, dropping from 19 to 20. The 6-1 Wasps are having a decent season thus far and are taking care of business when needed. Emory & Henry will take on Wingate in Week 7.
Just In Or Just Out: The Most Unstable Real Estate In Top-25
Just five spots left to talk about in this D2 chat, and these last five spots truly are the most unstable in any rankings. To be in the Top-25 is an honor, but it is always a privilege; one slip up and teams can fall out just as quickly as they were there. This week is no exception.
Spot 21 sees a climb as Northwest Missouri State jumps up four spots to find a little more security in the rankings. The Bearcats find themselves up a few spots after picking a road win over Central Missouri, 49-32.
Spot 22 doesn’t see too much of a change as Charleston (WV) falls just one spot to occupy the home. Spot 23 also sees minimal change as Findlay jumps up one spot from 24.
Spot 24 is a prime example of slip-ups finding teams in the bottom of the rankings, as Angelo State has once again lost in LSC play for the second week in a row. The Rams nosedived from 11 to 24 after a Week 6 loss to Texas A&M Kingsville, 24-19. While 4-2 isn’t necessarily a reason for fans to panic, ASU has to get back in the win column sooner rather than later.
Last but certainly not least, UNC Pembroke falls just two spots from 23 to 25. The Braves are 6-1 on the season and will hope to stay in the rankings post their matchup against North Greenville on Oct. 18.
Now that the Top-25 has been dissected and torn apart, we have to shed some light and acknowledgment to those schools waiting for the opportunity to find a home in the Top-25. The receiving votes schools this week are: Benedict, Albany State, Ashland, Henderson State, MSU Moorhead, Anderson (SC), East Stroudsburg, California (PA), Johnson C. Smith, and Northwood.
The most surprising in the receiving votes section this week is Benedict. Up to this point, it is a wonder that Benedict hasn’t found a home in the Top-25. The Tigers are a member of the undefeated club, currently 6-0 on the season, and are averaging almost 30 points per game.
"Justice for Benedict College. As a weekly voter, I put the Tigers in my Top 25. No matter who is on your schedule, remaining undefeated midway through October is a feat. I look forward to seeing if they can keep the momentum up as their schedule gets tougher." - Leanza Pieroni
For Benedict, a win against Edward Waters University could propel the Tigers into the Top-25 next week.
